Thanksgiving Tips

Giving Thanks
This Thanksgiving don’t forget to be thankful for your animal companions and keep them safe.

If you have guests over for the holidays be sure to provide your animals with a safe, comfortable place to rest, away from the hustle and bustle of festive activities. Some pets enjoy being right in the middle of the fun, while others choose to stay clear. Respect and be aware of your pets' needs and safety.
If you want to give your pets a Thanksgiving feast of their own, be careful not to overdo it, a change in diet could upset their digestive track. Avoid using foods that contain a lot of salt or preservatives and avoid sweets.
We all know chocolate isn't good for pets, but what some people don’t know is that Xylitol, a common sweetener and baking ingredient, is very toxic for animals. So during your holiday planning don't forget to plan for your pets' needs and have a                                                                                                                         Happy Howliday Season!

UPDATE on the Pets Ad Life Shelter Showdown!!

https://www.facebook.com/PetsAddLife

What is the Shelter Showdown?

The Shelter Showdown is an opportunity to provide your local shelter with funding to help deserving pets find loving homes. Pets Add Life is giving a grand prize of $25,000 to one shelter to celebrate PAL’s National Get a Pal For Your Pet Day on November 19. Second and third place winners receive $15,000 and $10,000 donations!
WHY?  Because your vote can help the thousands of adoptable pets in this country find their perfect home! Shelters and rescue groups rely on support and donations to place pets in homes and through this contest you can help your favorite shelter or rescue group win money that will further their lifesaving efforts. October 22 through November 19th, vote for your favorite shelter up to once per day and the shelter with the most votes wins! Spread the word and rally your friends and family to join in the competition!
Please help your local animal shelter and have fun daily voting!   ~ UPDATE*UPDATE

To PAL fans and Shelter Showdown participants-

Thank you for your interest in PAL and for participating in the Shelter Showdown Contest. We have been working diligently to resolve the voting issues but unfortunately, our voting system has been hacked. For this reason, we are ending the contest as we cannot verify the validity of votes. We do have a tally of votes cast before we were hacked so we have made the decision to equally distribute prize money to the top 25 shelters with the most votes. We know that some people have called for the contest to start over, but we do not want to risk another hacking event. As a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading the joys of pet ownership and the importance of pet adoption, this contest was meant to benefit pets in need of forever homes. We feel this resolution accomplishes this mission. It warms our hearts to see how passionate you all are and we will work to find another way to support shelters in the future. We understand for some of you, this will be disappointing and frustrating, and for that we are truly sorry. We appreciate your support, understanding, and above all what you do for pets.

The following are the top 25 shelters with the most votes, listed in alphabetical order:

Abandoned Animal Rescue
ALL Creatures Matter Rescue
Bill Foundation
Cassies Kitten Kastle

Happy to report that all of Buffy's babies and Buffy
have been placed in wonderful homes!!
Thanks to Everyone involved and

Our Buffy's adorable little brood are growing up so fast!!
Lynn their foster mom tells us that they are moving into solid foods now

Before you ask,  we don't know their breed is,
other than mommy is a Shih Tzu breed,

Have you checked out our Pin up Pet Calendar Competition recently??
Well let me tell you that overnight there was a huge swelling of new votes and it would seem that now EVERY SINGLE ENTRY HAS VOTES!!!
Can you believe that!!
Now it is true that I suspect a certain someone made sure that no Pet entrant was left behind
(Well I stole this line from the Marines and may have altered it) but how wonderful is it that!
We have swept past the 2k mark!! Woot woot!!
But on a more thankful note, thank you all so much who have entered at this point and continue to promote enter and vote. Every single dollar of profit goes directly to the animals of the Humane Society!

So what is next you might ask? Well everyone has been so patient
the least we can do is reveal this year’s theme.... brace yourself...

The 2015 Pin up Pet Calendars theme is....

The SWIMWEAR EDITION!!!

If you are not totally charmed by this then you haven't seen
this photo of Bear rocking his swimmers and aviator glasses!!
So let's do it people!  We have the talents of a wonderful photographer,
and an amazing printer and sponsorship from local businesses.
So help us make this year’s calendar, the first of its kind!
