Our Services

Some of the services provided by HSSV include:

ANIMAL CARE INFORMATION

We answer hundreds of calls each month about pet care. If we can help you keep your animals healthy and happy, we consider that a success! No question is too small.

LOW INCOME SPAY AND NEUTER ASSISTANCE

Preventing pet pregnancies is one of the best ways to make a difference for homeless animals. Click on the Puppy Mills and Pet Population tab (under Community Education) to learn more about our rates and schedule.

ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY

Volunteers provide hours of enjoyment to local nursing home residents by bringing pets from the shelter to visit. Call us if you'd like to get involved in this program!

EMERGENCY ANIMAL RESCUE

Our staff rescues injured domestic pets and small wildlife in our area, coming to the aid of needy animals 24 hours a day. We raise orphaned pupples and kittens, seek veterinary care for injured animals, and treat animals with medical issues.

LOST & FOUND

Call us with information about your rescued stray or lost pet and we will log it in our books. However, there is no substitute for the owner coming into the shelter to see if their pet has been brought in.

PET ADOPTION

We try to place every dog, cat, rabbit, bird, and other domestic animal in a good home. Our low adoption fee includes the cost of spay and neutering, first vaccines, collar and identification tags.

HUMANE SOCIETY THRIFT SHOP

Our thrift shop sells quality merchandise at bargain prices. All purchases benefit the Humane Society, and we appreciate both your shopping dollars and your donated items.

HUMANE EDUCATION

Our staff and volunteers teach responsible pet ownership and respect for all animals. If you or your organization is interested in hosting a visiting educator and a polite shelter pet, please give us a call.

ADOPTION COUNSELING

We assist you in selecting the right pet. We have animal-savvy staff members with extensive knowledge of dog and cat breeds, behavior, and temperaments. We would love to help.

CARE FOR STRAY, ABANDONED,  ABUSED,  AND UNWANTED PETS

We care for over 3,500 pets annually. We work to place every adoptable pet in a loving, lifelong home. Some of our animals have been with us for a long time, and we encourage you to meet some of our long-term residents. The longer they stay, the more ready they are to finally find a home of their own.

Information on surrendering a pet or stray:

Our open-admission policy is sometimes limited by available space. Please call first to ensure that we have an open kennel. We DO NOT EUTHANIZE HEALTHY, ADOPTABLE ANIMALS DUE TO SPACE CONSTRAINTS. Sometimes, this means that folks will need to get on a waiting list for an open spot. The Humane Society of Skagit Valley is committed to a no kill pet policy of adoptable pets.

Surrender fees vary according to your address, as different areas and municipalities have different policies regarding stray animal care and funding. Bring proof of address and photo ID when surrendering a pet.
