Foster

Saving the lives of kittens and puppies

We are incredibly grateful to the foster families who help us give dogs with puppies, cats with kittens, and orphaned youngsters the best possible environment during their formative weeks.

The Humane Society is often in need of good foster homes to provide care for young kittens or puppies until they are old enough to be adoptable. This can require up to a two month commitment. Foster homes need to have an area where they can isolate their own pets from the foster pets. If you are interested and are a responsible pet lover,
please email janine.c@skagithumane.com and humanesocietyofskagitvalley@gmail.com
I will send you some information but I truly encourage you to stop by the Humane Society to fill out an application.  We need as many Foster Parents on standby so when the need arises we call upon you.  Please let us know what you are willing to Foster, as our program can be as little as 4 weeks or up to 14 weeks.  It all depends on the needs.

Giving a mature pet a better chance

You may also choose to foster any of our other animals in the shelter. This helps free up room at the shelter so that we may take in other needy animals. It also helps dogs and cats by taking them out of the stressful shelter environment and helps to acclimate them to a home environment which makes them more adoptable. This is a unique request as the Humane Society is open 7 days a week, the need for a Foster of this kind of pet requires flexibility to be available to do meet and greets,
